As India celebrated NCC Day on Monday,14-year-old Parag Ingle once an NCC cadet lies forgotten in a state of coma at Command Hospital. Parag was shot in the head accidentally by his teacher during NCC practice on February 1. Police said NCC yet to submit an inquiry report. He condition is the same. Some times he opens his eyes, makes a sound, but thats it.this what the NCC training did to him, said Devendra Ingle,Parags father, who works with PMC. Every day begins with a hope that he will become alright, but nothing changes. It has been 10 months now, he said. What makes Devendra furious is the fact that no action has been taken against either the NCC officers or the school teacher who was responsible for the act. Amod Ghanekar was the teacher who took him there and fired that bullet which destroyed our life. No action has been taken against the teacher or NCC officers. When will we get justice? asked Devendra. My elder son Makarand is in Class XII. He used to be a bright student. With all this happening, his grades have gone down and he has become withdrawn. My family has been torn apart, added Devendra. On February 1,Ghanekar had gone to the NCC Group headquarters on Senapati Bapat Road along with 46 students of Loyola School, including Parag. He was training cadets to fire a 0.22 rifle when the incident happened. Four students, including Parag, were in position for firing practice. Ghanekar, who was standing behind the cadets, allegedly without having the authority or a gun licence, handled the loaded rifle negligently and fired it. Apparently,Ingle got up suddenly and the bullet hit his head. Parag is is stable, opens his eyes sometimes when his mother talks to him. But it is hard to say whether he is perceiving anything because he cannot talk, said Major General V Ravishankar,Commandant,Command Hospital. Senior Inspector Manohar Joshi said,Ghanekar has been booked and is out on bail. We have filed a chargesheet in court. Now,it is up to the court to decide when the case will come up for hearing.
