On day two of Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, Maharashtra Mandal’s ground in Mukund Nagar on Thursday held a packed venue in a thrall. The event was organised by Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal.

The programme began with a scintillating vocal duet by Krishna Bongane and Nagesh Adgaonkar, disciples of the late Ustad Rashid Khan. Their rendition of Raag Multani set the tone with smooth harmony and emotive depth. The duet gradually moved to the soulful thumri ‘Yaad piya ki aaye’ and ended with the mighty Marathi abhang ‘Mi Gato Nachato Anande’ in Raag Malkans, which had the audience applauding with both hands.

After the duet, senior Carnatic vocalist Sangeeta Katti Kulkarni gave a solo vocal performance showcasing her command over tricky ragas. She rendered Raag Yaman accompanied by two bandishes, which she presented with exceptional clarity and ended with a bhajan by Purandardas, leaving the audience in rapt silence.
