Mumbai rains hit Pune trains

Continuous downpour in Mumbai as well as Pune threw rail traffic out of gear on the Mumbai-Pune route on Tuesday.

Continuous downpour in Mumbai as well as Pune threw rail traffic out of gear on the Mumbai-Pune route on Tuesday. Trains reached Pune far behind schedule as the rail tracks in Mumbai were under 10-inch water.

The Sinhagad Express that set out at 2.40 pm on Tuesday from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus spent almost three hours in Mumbai. The train left Mumbai after 6 pm. Owing to this, passengers, who commute between Mumbai and Pune on a daily basis, arrived in Pune only late at night.

Hemant Tapale, president of Pune-Mumbai Railway Pravasi Sangh, travelling by Deccan Queen, said,“All the trains on the Mumbai-Pune route ran late. The Sinhagad Express, which generally leaves CST at 2.30 pm,could get out of Mumbai only after 6 pm,” he said.

“Since the railway tracks were under 10-inch water, all the trains were being driven with extra caution and hence the delay,” he said.

A passenger aboard Sinhagad Express,Vrishali Gaikwad said,“Since the train reached Pune late in the night, our next day’s routine will be affected,” she said. She added that other express trains like Pragati,Konark and Kanyakumari were also running behind schedule. Railway official Y K Singh said,“Trains like Udyan,Koyana and Sinhagad Express were late. However,no train was cancelled. Wednesday’s rail traffic will depend upon the weather conditions.”
