MSRTC bus driver fired for drink driving, crashing vehicle on Pune-Solapur Highway

After the accident, MSRTC authorities said no injuries were reported after the crash on the Pune-Solapur Highway.

The driver was driving a Lal Pari bus carrying 44 passengers when it crashed near Kalbhor Lawns in Kadam Wak Wasti on the Pune-Solapur Highway at around 12.30 am.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Wednesday terminated the services of a driver found intoxicated while driving a bus that met with an accident on the Pune-Solapur Highway.

The driver was driving a Lal Pari bus carrying 44 passengers when it crashed near Kalbhor Lawns in Kadam Wak Wasti on the Pune-Solapur Highway at around 12.30 am. Authorities said no injuries were reported after the crash.

Pramod Nehul, Puje Divisional Controller, MSRTC, said the driver and bus belong to the Dharavi Division and police are looking into the case. “We investigated and found no injuries except the minor damage worth Rs 5,000 to the bus bumper. The driver was drunk… We have suspended and terminated him,” he said.

Nehul said alcohol checks are conducted on drivers as a precautionary measure. “It might have happened between the routes. We are not aware of it. However, the investigation is launched and police are also overseeing the case,” he said.

In recent months, multiple accidents involving MSRTC buses have been reported. On January 27, an MSRTC bus travelling from Dahiwadi to Jyotiba fell off a bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway in the Sangli district, injuring 35 passengers and the driver.

Official data shows the Pune Division reported 301 accidents involving MSRTC buses, resulting in 35 fatalities, between March 2023 and December 2024.
