MSEDCL installs TOD meters free of cost for accurate billing
According to officials a TOD meter is an electricity meter that measures and records energy consumption based on the time of day it was used.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited is in the process of installing time of day (TOD) electricity meters free of charge for all electricity consumers. So far, over 4 lakh consumers across various categories in the Pune circle have received these meters, enabling accurate and timely electricity billing. The meters are postpaid and are tested for accuracy, which can be verified at MSEDCLs testing facilities.
MSEDCL adopted this initiative to eliminate human errors in meter reading and billing delays. According to an official statement, these smart meters transmit usage data digitally and automatically, allowing bills to be generated quickly and correctly.
Consumers can track their electricity usage anytime, anywhere through the MSEDCL mobile app, enhancing transparency and control. With the integration of solar power, the power utility is able to offer cheaper electricity during the daytime because of the TOD system. These meters record usage based on time, so consumers can benefit from daytime discounts on electricity rates.
MSEDCL officials have appealed to all electricity consumers to cooperate with installation teams and not fall prey to rumors. “The goal is to provide every consumer with accurate, timely, and transparent billing using reliable and modern technology,” Sunil Kakade, chief engineer, Pune division of MSEDCL said.
