Monthly appraisal for civic depts

In a move to bring in more effective and transparent budget implementation,the Pune civic administration has introduced a monthly appraisal system for each department.

We want to bring in transparency in the implementation of the budget. The Pune Municipal Corporation has been preparing its annual budget but there was no follow-up on implementation, said municipal commissioner Mahesh Zagade.

He said the objective is to bring in social audit by simplifying the budget document for the benefit of citizens. There are 15 booklets,one for each department,on the budget wherein citizens can easily find out the provision made and follow up with implementation, Zagade said.

The initiative will get a push next year when the booklet of each department will have work done in the previous year and the work that is needed to be done in the current fiscal,he said.

To ensure that there is no haphazard spending of civic funds,Zagade said all the departments have been asked to prepare vision documents for the next few years.It will be a road map for each department and would help in deciding the policy, he said.
