With monsoon remaining elusive,as many as 75 villages and over 300 hamlets are facing severe drinking water shortage. The total number of affected population stands at 1.40 lakh. The Pune Zilla Parishad in association with district collectorate is providing water to these affected villlages through tankers.
Resident deputy collector Prakash Kadam on Friday said efforts are being made to reach out to all the villages affected by severe water scarcity. We are even providing water through bullock-carts to some of the villages and hamlets located in far flung areas of the district, Kadam said. He said except for Maval and Indapur where tankers are not required, several other talukas are being catered to by the Zilla Parishad and the district collectorate. Assuring about the quality of water supplied,Kadam said there are 40 wells from where the water is lifted. The water is tested rigorously before being supplied to the villagers. We are taking all care to supply potable drinking water to the affected villagers, he said. Stating that affected villagers get enough water,Kadam said the water tankers both government and private make four to five rounds of the villages since morning to dusk. Which means villages get enough water on a day, he said adding that the figure of tankers supplying water to villagers keeps changing everyday. Kadam said even last year till July, the ZP and the collectorate had to team up to provide water to affected villages. The situation regarding providing water in monsoon is not new, he said.
