MH Khadki gets a facelift,phase I to be inaugurated today

The Military Hospital (MH),Khadki,is all set to shed its historic World War II look. Lt Gen H L Kakria,DGMS (Army) and senior Colonel Commandant will inaugurate the new hospital complex at 9 am on Sunday.

The new building was built as part of phase I of Rs 105-crore new hospital project. “Currently,we are operating in barracks and have 846 beds. Our orthopeadic centre is the biggest amongst the Army hospitals. At a given time,we have about 300 patients at various sections of the hospital. “The new facility is equipped with ultra-modern equipment,” said one of the officials.

Established on March 8,1940,as Indo-British General Hospital in Aundh,MH was shifted to its present location on August 8,1949. The modernisation plan of the hospital was proposed on January 4,1992. The new multi-storey facility is located in the same 300-acre campus and houses 170-bed orthopedics centre — the biggest amongst any military hospitals in the country.

“The new facility will also include surgery,ophthalmology,ENT,dermatology,gynecology,physiotherapy centres along with X- Ray,ICU and joint replacement centre facilities. It will also have family wards,labour rooms and children wards,” said the officer.

Phase II,the construction work of which is already under way,is worth Rs 66.7235 crore and will house the remaining wards of the hospital.
