Increase in temperature has reduced the arrival of fruits and vegetables in the Agriculture Market Committee (APMC) sending the prices up. Leafy vegetables saw the highest rise. In retail,coriander is being sold at Rs 8-10 per bunch,while prices of French Beans,Tomatoes,Cauliflowers have also gone up. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 24 -28 per kg,while Cauliflowers are being sold at Rs 24 per kg. Prices of French Beans have touched Rs 85 per kg,the highest in recent times. A fortnight ago due to low temperature,prices of certain vegetables had gone up. Now with the temperatures soaring,it has reduced the arrival of all the vegetables. The prices are expected to remain stable for a couple of weeks, said Vilas Bhujbal,a wholesaler and former APMC president. 'Raja' Pineapple makes debut The Raja variety of Pineapples from Karnataka,made its debut at the APMC market at Gultekdi . Usually most of the pineapples come from within the state. This variety tastes different compared to the local varieties and is also bigger. We are hoping that it would have a good demand, a wholeseller from APMC said. Jijamata award for BR Ulmek Dr B R Ulmek,the principal and associate dean of College of Agriculture has been awarded with Jijamata Gaurav Puraskar for the year 2012 for his research work involving dairy animals and agricultural education. The Pune-based Jijamata Purskar Vitaran Samittee houn-ours individuals contributing for rural development . He developed a breed descriptor for Pandharpuri buffalo based on the database generated for 25,000 Pandharpuri buffaloes in its breeding tract which led for establishing foundation of Network Project on Pandharpuri buffalo. Over 10,000 progenies of Pandharpuri buffaloes have been developed till now. The award was handed over to him at at Shaniwarwada recently. SPARDHA-12 at Vamnicom Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management has inaugurated SPARDHA-12,a national event with Green Agriculture for Transmuting World. Dr V V Sadamate,Advisor (Agriculture),Planning Commission Government of India was the the chief guest of the event. About 25 teams form across the country presented the papers on the subject,which were evaluted by senior faculty members from different reputed institutes. A business quiz for MBA students was also organise in which about 33 teams form different management institutes participated. Dr V V Sadamate said that AMB students should inculcate principles such as hard work and dreaming big in order to attain their dreams.
