After a long wait the city is finally set to experience some chill as mercury dipped to 13.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday morning. The last week of December is set to see a further fall in the minimum temperature. So far,the minimum temperature has not reached 10 degree Celsius.
For most part of the month, maximum and minimum temperatures in the city have remained higher than normal. Medha Khole, director of weather forecasting section,IMD,Pune attributed the temperature rise to cloudy conditions. Due to cloudy conditions, the city is experiencing humid weather and thus the absence of cold conditions, she said.
On Tuesday, though a slight fall in minimum temperature was observed. The minimum temperature is still above normal but in the last two days a falling tendency is seen and it will continue in the next two days, she said.
Khole said the temperatures were above normal during this winter season,as the northerly winds didnt settle in. Due to the impact of south-easterlies,the temperatures were above normal. This impact still persists to some extent, but as the temperatures are falling rapidly in the northern parts of the country, there is hope of northerly winds settling in the city, she said.
In next two days IMD has predicted that the minimum temperature would be around 14 degree Celsius. However, there may be a further fall in the temperature by the weekend, she said.
The normal maximum and minimum temperatures during December are generally 28 and 10 degree Celsius respectively. However, this year the temperatures were above normal by 4 to 5 degrees for most of December. The lowest temperature recorded in the city so far this season is 11.3 degree Celsius,on December 1.
