Mendonce,Morris give Bishop’s the title

The Bishop’s School,Camp,triumphed over the defending champions,Christ Church School,Mumbai,to win the Maharashtra Anglo-Indian ICSE Inter-School Football tournament title for the eighth time in its 25 years of existence.

Playing at the Jeejeebhoy ground,Bishop’s School were on a high from the start as a sizeable crowd rooted for the home team.

Kranz Morris drew first blood when he found the target in the fourth minute of the match. Christ Church School,which were on a high till the final having won all their league encounters,seemed to have been pegged back by that early strike.

Seven minutes later,Elton Mendonce fired home Bishop’s second goal that eventually sealed the tie as the home team looked happy to preserve their 2-0 advantage.

Mendonce,who scored in the final and also in the semi-finals,was adjudged the best player of the tournament,while Christ Church School’s Faizan Shaikh emerged as top scorer of the tournament with 18 goals to his credit.

Samrut Jain of Bombay Scottish School,Mahim,was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Principal of the Bishop’s School,Camp,Frank Freese and Headmaster Jewel Edwin gave away the trophies.
