Latitude at Vivaanta by Taj Blue Diamond is hosting a special Onam buffet over the weekend. Dishes like Meen Thakkali Roast (Fish baked with Tomatoes in Coconut milk),Mutton Malli Peralan ,Avial (Assorted vegetables steam-cooked with curd),Cabbage Thoran (Shredded Cabbage tossed in fresh coconut),Pumpkin Elussery (Yellow Pumpkin and lentil cooked with coconut). Sweet dishes like the Paalada Payasam ( Ada cooked in coconut milk and sugar),Parippu Pradhaman (Roasted lentil cooked in Jaggery),Elai Ada (Steamed rice cake with cardamom flower filled with coconut and jaggery).

Domestic Godesses

The second round of the contest,Mallika-e-Kitchen 2011,was recently hosted by Pride Hotel,Shivajinagar. Two winners were picked from the 16 shortlisted by the judges,chef Arindham Bhattacharya from Hotel Radisson and chef Alfred Dsouza from Hotel Pride. Manasi Bakundri from Pune and Aashlesha Mungerwadi from Kolhapur are now headed for the national showdown to be held this month.

Republic of good taste

The restaurant chain is an award-winning presence in Goa and Bengaluru’s eatery circle,and is popular for its delectable selection of Thai,Vietnamese,Malay,Singaporean,Indonesian and Burmese fare,all cooked to clay pot perfection. Look out for some unusual,high-on-flavour concoctions,like Pineapple curry with Lychees and Burmese curry with Lime and Potatoes. Desserts include such heavyweights as Indonesian Banana Fritters served with Honey Crunch Ice Cream and Caramelised Apple Toffee with Berry Compote. Phew!

Baskin Robbins has made it a habit of transforming strong natural flavours into sinful ice cream ingredients. The “dreamy” flavour of the month for September is ‘Toasted Coconut Crunch’. The new flavour combines the sugary sweetness and divine crunchiness of coconut,caramel ribbon swirls and praline cashews. Let the slurp fest begin!
