A 25-year-old MBA student committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her residence in Magarpatta city.
The incident took place between 4.30 pm on Sunday and 10 am on Monday. Police have arrested Ajinkya Bahubali Mehta (25) of Gagan Galaxy in Market Yard with whom Sarika Mahamuni was believed to be in love for the past five years.
A complaint has been registered at the Hadapsar police station. Police said Mahamuni is a daughter of a jeweller from Indapur and was currently residing in an apartment in Magarpatta city. She was a second year MBA student at an institute in Hadapsar.
Police said she was in love with Ajinkya, also an MBA student, for the last five years. Police said lately Ajinkya was ignoring her and at this Mahamuni sent him an SMS,saying she would commit suicide if he continued to ignore her. But he allegedly ignored the SMS and hence she hanged herself.
Police said Sarikas sister staying at Warje contacted her repeatedly, but there was no response. However, she never thought this was the reason. On Monday morning,Ajinkya called her but there was no response. He went to her house in Magarpatta and when he found her house locked and got no response even after repeated knocks,he called her sister to the spot. The duo later alerted the police. When the door was opened with the help of a key-maker,Sarika was found dead in the house.
Police arrested Ajinkya under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code and produced him before the court on Wednesday. He was remanded in police custody till July 29. Police sub-inspector D V Dokhe is investigating the case.
