Actor Mahesh Manjrekar,and Aniruddha Deshpande,real estate developer,have come together to start Great Maratha Entertainment LLP (GME) to bring about positive changes in the Marathi entertainment industry. “Annually,there are over 100 releases each year,out of which most go unnoticed. The failure can be attributed to poor marketing that results in heavy losses. GME will handle systematic channelisation of investments,usage of latest technology and will work upon intelligent marketing. Eventually this will create a sense of curiosity and draw the audience,” said Manjrekar,partner,GME. Will the movies cater to a particular sector,Manjrekar clarified,”Commercial viability is our priority. But there would be no compromise on quality cinema. We are also looking at entering the television industry in the near future.” The setting up of an ultra modern studio is also on the cards. “Movie to movie funding is what we have restricted ourselves to. We are working on promoting the theatre industry as well,” said Deshpande,partner,GME.

Photo enthusiasts and amateur photographers can fine tune their skills at ‘Apperture Overtures’,a workshop in basic photography by Sameer Belvalkar Studio. To be held at the Coronet,Apte Road,on January 7 and 8,from 9.30 am – 5.30 pm This start-from-scratch workshop will teach the basic art of photography and strengthen one’s skill of capturing stunning photographs and moments.

Cultural Connect

The Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh’s Global Council of Art & Culture organised the 1 st Global Cultural Olympiad 2011 in Thailand on December 27. Sixty different classical dancve forms were performed. Six artists from city-based Nruthyarthi Kalakshetram won awards for their Bharatnatyam dance. Urvee Patankar won the gold medal,Sneha Gojare the silver medal,Aishwarya Belsare the bronze medal while Anusha Keskar,Bhakti Pandit and Shweta Yelmame received the Meritorious Award. Three hundred and fifty artists from Thailand,US,India and Qatar participated in this cultural Olympiad. The Grand Laudable Prize Distribution Ceremony at Vic Hua Hin Theatre,Thailand,was attended by Thai actress and classical dancer Mezudhon Patravadi.
