63-year-old man hit by auto in Pune dies after driver dumps him in injured condition
Police have identified the deceased as Gopal Govin Wagh (63), a resident of Balewadi. His son lodged an FIR at Baner police station on July 22.

Pune city police have identified the auto-rickshaw driver who allegedly knocked down a senior citizen in Baner and then instead of taking him to a hospital, dumped him in an injured condition at a secluded spot in Khadki and escaped. The senior citizen later died due to the injuries.
Police have identified the deceased as Gopal Govin Wagh (63), a resident of Balewadi. His son lodged an FIR at Baner police station on July 22.
Police said Wagh left home on the afternoon of July 20, but did not return. Family members searched for him till late in the evening. Failing to trace him, they approached the Baner police station. The police then launched a search for Wagh. Police teams checked videos captured by multiple CCTV cameras. It revealed that Wagh was knocked down by an auto rickshaw near the New Poona Bakery at Balewadi Phata in Baner around 4.45 pm on July 20.
Then, as people gathered at the spot, the driver picked up Wagh and kept him in the auto rickshaw. He left the spot saying he would admit Wagh to a hospital. But later he took Wagh to Khadki and left him in an injured state near the railway track in Range Hill area. The police rushed to the spot on July 21 and found Wagh lying at the spot in an injured condition.
Police informed Wagh’s family and immediately took him to Sassoon hospital. However, the doctors pronounced him dead. Post-mortem revealed that Wagh died due to a severe head injury which he received after being hit by the auto-rickshaw.
Wagh’s son then lodged the FIR against the unidentified auto-rickshaw driver. Police booked the auto-rickshaw driver on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 105 and 238.
Based on clues obtained from CCTV footage, cops found the auto-rickshaw. “We have seized the auto-rickshaw. Its driver has also been identified. He is on the run. A search is on for him,” said assistant police inspector Anil Kekan, the investigation officer of this case.
