Man,‘2 wives’ held in duping case

The Pune police have arrested a man and his two wives who were duping women of jewellery by luring them to exchange it against gold buds,which were actually made of copper.

The Pune police have arrested a man and his two wives who were duping women of jewellery by luring them to exchange it against gold buds,which were actually made of copper.

The suspects have been identified as Ashish Soni (23),Rina Ashish Soni (22) and Kanchan Ashish Soni (20),all residents of Ganga nagar in Phursungi.

The suspects had allegedly duped Jamuna Moghe (42) of Vaiduwadi,Hadapsar on June 18,this year. Moghe had lodged a complaint at Hadapsar police station in this case. Police said that Moghe was going home when two of the suspects approached her saying that if she gives them her earrings and gold chain,they would give her 200 grams of gold buds in exchange.

Lured by the officer,Moghe gave her jewellery worth Rs 20,000 to the suspects. She later found that buds given to her in exchange were made of copper.

Acting on a tip-off,the Hadapsar police arrested the suspects in this case and produced them before the magisterial court on Saturday. The court remanded the suspects to police custody till July 12.

Investigation officer,sub inspector B K Chavan said that suspects approached people with some five genuine gold buds. Suspects claimed they found the buds at a construction site while digging and want to sell it. They managed to convince people for exchanging gold jewellery for the gold buds.

However,after taking the gold jewellery for a person,the suspects were in exchange giving copper buds. Police said that trio has cheated people in Sangvi,Cam,Kalewadi and also at some places in Aurangabad.
