Mahindra 2 Wheelers on Wednesday inaugurated its new R&D Centre in Chinchwad. Set up at an investment of Rs 100 crore,the facility has been built exclusively for the development of the groups two-wheelers.
The centre,which was inaugurated by Anand Mahindra,vice-chairman and managing director of the group,currently employs over 175 engineers. It includes a design studio,an engine development and testing centre and a centre for computer aided engineering.
Speaking on the occasion,Mahindra said,The R&D centre will provide us with the dual benefits of indigenous design at lower costs and shortened product development lifecycles.
The companys two new offerings,Duro DZ and Rodeo RZ have,already been developed at the Pune facility. Apart from that,the company also unveiled two new engines which were developed at the centre. While one of the engines is an indigenously developed and tested 110 cc engine,the other is a 300cc engine.
The company also plans to launch three more motorcycles within the financial year,said Anoop Mathur,president (two-wheeler sector).
Speaking about the two-wheeler market,Mahindra said,We have a very positive outlook for two-wheelers in the long term. As people get more environmentally conscious,they will start using two-wheelers more frequently, Mahindra added.
