Maharashtra Medical Council polls: 2,069 doctors from Pune cast votes 

There are as many as 49 candidates in the fray for the nine seats of the MMC. The voting was held between 8 am and 5 pm amid peace and no untoward incident was reported.

VOTING for Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) elections was held at B J Medical College on Sunday where 2,069 doctors from Pune district belonging to various medical fields cast their votes. The results for the elections will be declared on December 23 following a counting of votes in Mumbai.

There are as many as 49 candidates in the fray for the nine seats of the MMC. The voting was held between 8 am and 5 pm amid peace and no untoward incident was reported.

This election is being keenly contested as for the first time, the official panel of candidates with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) is facing a challenge from doctors who are enlisted with other panels and contesting the election. From Pune, Dr Dilip Sarda is the official IMA candidate while Dr Nitin Bhagali from the Pragati panel, which is supported by Vaidkiya Vikas Manch and Shiv Arogya Sena, contested the election. The remaining two candidates include Dr Rishi Thakur and Dr Ajay Naik from Pune.
