In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly election, 7,42,135 people had chosen to vote for the None of the Above (NOTA) option. This equalled 1.35 per cent of the total 5,51,50,470 votes cast. In this election, with counting almost complete, NOTA has polled just 4,61,534 votes. This adds up to only 0.71 per cent of the total votes, meaning that the percentage of people opting for NOTA has almost halved.

This shows that voters are not disillusioned with political parties even after two of the major players in the state, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party, split, leading to alliance equations taking a completely new form, say political observers.

In Pune, the Vadgaon Sheri seat saw 4,259 votes polled for NOTA, the highest in the city. This could be a result of dissatisfaction with sitting NCP MLA Sunil Tingre over the Porsche case. Tingre lost the seat to Bapu Pathare of the NCP(SP) by just 4,710 votes.

The Kasba Peth seat saw the lowest number of votes cast for NOTA with the figure standing at 1,213. Here the fight was between incumbent Ravindra Dhangekar of the Congress and Hemant Rasane of the BJP. Rasane won the constituency by 19,423 votes.

The NOTA count in all seats in Pune is as follows: Hadapsar – 2,946; Kasba Peth – 1,213; Parvati – 2,461; Pune Cantonment – 1,815; Vadgaon Sheri – 4,259; Kothrud – 3,152; Shivajinagar – 2,044 and Khadakwasla – 2,900.
