Lt Gen (retd) AK Singh sworn in Lt Governor of A&N Islands

Lt Gen (retd) A K Singh,former Army Commander of the Southern Command headquartered in Pune,assumed office as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday.

Lt Gen (retd) A K Singh,former Army Commander of the Southern Command headquartered in Pune,assumed office as the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Monday.

At a formal swearing-in-ceremony held at Raj Niwas, Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Arun Mishra administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to Singh. Chief Secretary Anand Prakash read out the warrant of the appointment.

Singh was commissioned into one of the oldest regiments,the 7th Light Cavalry on June 17,1973. He has commanded the 7th Cavalry,a T-90 Tank Brigade,an Armoured Division and the most powerful 1 Corps. Till recently,he headed the largest Command,the Southern Army,covering ten states and four Union Territories and 40 per cent of country’s landmass.

“He is credited with having ensured smooth civil-military relations and making major contribution in improving the administration and amenities in over 50 cantonments and military stations under his jurisdiction. For his exceptional and outstanding services,the General has been decorated with numerous awards,”said a release issued by Press Information Bureau (PIB),Defence Wing.

The General said he was honoured and humbled by the trust reposed and the responsibility entrusted on him. “Providing security and balanced development while keeping ecological concerns in mind will be the focus area,” the release quoted him as saying.
