The Loyola School on Monday shut Class IX and X until Thursday after two Class IX students were detected with H1N1 virus.

The Loyola School on Monday shut Class IX and X until Thursday after two Class IX students were detected with H1N1 virus.

“We found two Class IX students infected,so we fumigated the school. As classes IX and X are on the same floor,we decided to close them until Thursday,” said Roy D’Monty, school administrative officer.

In the last two months,308 students from 184 institutes have been infected with swine flu.

Though some schools decided to close classes, there are no specific instructions to do so from the government. According to information from the swine flu cell of Pune district, from June 7 to August 15,as many as 308 students were detected with H1N1. “Most were found in schools. Schools where cases were found were told to carry out check-ups of all other students,” officials said.

Officials said no school was asked to close down. “They have been instructed to fumigate classes, not close down. Teachers have been asked to monitor each student for symptoms and send any with cough, cold or fever home,” said an official. Most students who were infected have been treated.

After Loyola School announced the closure, some parents said “We were told the closure was owing to some teachers being well.”
