Emraan Hashmi and director Kunal Deshmukh who were in the city, with Soha Ali Khan,on Thursday to shoot for their film Tum Mile talk of the movie’s unusal backdrop the devastating Mumbai floods of July 26,2005
On July 26,2005,Mumbai received around 40 inches of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, resulting in unprecedented flooding and loss of about 1000 lives. Now,the Bhatt brothers film banner Vishesh Films is all set to release a movie based on that fateful day four years ago. Titled Tum Mile, the films shooting was in progress at Hotel Pride on Thursday; present on location were lead actor Emraan Hashmi and director Kunal Deshmukh (of Jannat fame).
Its a love story based on the Mumbai floods of July 26,2005 which brought the metropolis to a halt and led to loss of several lives. Soha Ali Khan is the female lead while Emraan Hashmi is the protagonist, informs Deshmukh. The story is about how their lives change in the aftermath of the floods and how a chance meeting leads to some unusual situations, adds Deshmukh. When asked why did he chose Pune as the location for the movie,he says after 26/11,it has become risky to shoot in Mumbai five-stars. We decided to shoot some sequences in this hotel since Mumbai five-stars are no longer safe after the events of November 26 last year. Weve tried to recreate the same ambience here and its worked out well, says Deshmukh.
Well-known for portraying roles with a difference,Hashmi looks dapper in a blue silk shirt and denim and essays the role of an artist in the movie. My character is that of an artist, who paints not just on canvas but on other media like wood and stone,as well. This film is not an out-an-out love story,it will redefine the idiom of a love story, says the actor whose Raaz The Mystery Continues has been the sole box office success till date this year.
Adding that it was his fascination with the script that made him take on the role,he says,The best part is theres a novelty about the script and an amazing chemistry between Soha and me,which works for the film. Even though, traditionally,Ive done certain kind of roles and so has Soha,in this film,we get to explore totally new characters, which both of us havent essayed till date.
Elaborating on the experience of working with his co-star,Hashmi says Soha is very down-to-earth. Soha has been great from the word go. Shes got a freshness to her which is great for the film, adds the maverick actor.
About his forthcoming projects,Hashmi says hes looking forward to Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. Thats one movie Im really very happy to be a part of. I think its going to turn out really well, he adds and takes off to shoot for another scene of Tum Mile on its penultimate day of shooting.
