Lokhande in u-17 badminton final

Sahil Lokhande defeated Rishabh Deshpande in a keenly contested semi-final tie to book a berth in the finals of the boys under-17 category of the District Badminton Championships.

EXSahil Lokhande defeated Rishabh Deshpande in a keenly contested semi-final tie to book a berth in the finals of the boys under-17 category of the District Badminton Championships. The tournament was organised by Pune Metropolitan Badminton Association and is being played at the Modern PDMBA complex.

Lokhande who seeded fourth in the under-17 category was in fine form as he captured the first game 21-14. Deshpande,however,fought back in the second. However,Lokhande produced a sizzling smash to take the lead.

In the boys singles under-19 pre quarter-final round,Ajit Kumbhar,the second seed,defeated Narendra Gogawale 21-6,21-18. Kaivalya Kumthekar,the third seed,defeated Neeraj Deshingkar 21-12,21-10. Rohan Patwardhan,seeded fourth,prevailed over Devashish Deshpande 21-17,21-9 while Chirag Ramdas was victorious against Viren Deshpande 21-10,21-13. In the girls singles under-15,Purva Barve,the top seed,secured a place in the final. Barve defeated Vrushi Furia 21-13,21-7 while Shriya Bhagwat beat Amarja Kulkarni 21-7,21-10 to set up a summit clash with Barve.

In the boys singles under-13 pre quarter-final round,Shlok Agarwal,Kartik Sidhaye,Anish Rane and Tejas Chitale all secured wins and progressed to the last eight. Rane,who was unseeded,beat the number four seed,Jayesh Kawade,21-7,21-10 to record an upset. In the girls under-13 category,Sanashree Dhamdhere,Tanishka Deshpande,Aditi Mahajan and Neha Shrikhande,the top four seeds,won their encounters comfortably and progressed to the quarterfinal round.
