Lessons for teachers to keep H1N1at bay

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has started a training programme for teachers and volunteers from social organisations.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started a training programme for teachers and volunteers from social organisations. Once trained, these teachers and volunteers would teach primary students across the township preventive measures against swine flu.

The PCMC officials said the initiative that began on Wednesday follows the observation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) that the disease has a possibility of spreading fast in winters and that children with low immunity are more vulnerable.

PCMC Commissioner Asheesh Sharma said,“citizens took our appeal seriously and kept the celebrations during the Ganesh festival minimum. Many areas saw minimal crowd.”

Now,during Navratri and Diwali also we hope people follow the practice because crowding can increase the risk of the spread of virus.”

Sharma said that special attention would be given to children between 3 and 5 years of age who would be taught swine flu preventive measures. The teachers would be asked to keep a check on students and report all children showing minor symptoms to hospital.

In another ongoing programme, doctors examine students on a day to day basis and in schools across the city and prescribe them medicines.

Volunteers would visit residential areas and request people to send their relatives and friends for medical checkup,if they show any symptoms of the disease.
