The city youth brigade is out to make its mark in the Assembly elections this time. The Congress,BJP and NCP have given tickets to youth leaders. Rohit Tilak (Congress),Murlidhar Mohol (BJP) and Sachin Taware (NCP) are a few of them.
It all began with the Congress declaring candidature of Tilak from Kasba Peth Assembly segment very much in sync with the strategy for Lok Sabha where the party gave tickets to its youth leaders.
Tilak,a former state unit chief of the students wing of Congress (NSUI),will take on sitting BJP MLA Girish Bapat.
Mohol is the city unit chief of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) from Khadkwasla Assembly constituency.
He was preferred over city unit leaders Ujjwal Keskar and Bhimrao Tapkir. The constituency is considered an NCP bastion and falls in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency represented by Supriya Sule.
After the Congress and BJP announced the nominations of their youth brigade, the city NCP youth wing put pressure on party leaders to give a representation to them as well.
The NCP opted for its city youth wing president Sachin Taware for the Parvati Assembly segment seat that was vied for by NCP corporator Subash Jagtap and former Mayor Vandana Chavan.
There was much speculation that Chavan would be given party ticket to make it a three-cornered all-women contest as Parvati had Kiran Moghe of the CPI (M) and Madhuri Misal of the BJP.
The Shiv Sena too has fielded youth party worker Virendra Gaikwad from the Pune Cantonment Board Assembly segment a reserved constituency.
