The inclusion of family members of corporators in the PMC delegation that went on a recent study tour to South Korea came under strong criticism at the general body meeting on Tuesday as MNS corporators staged a protest,forcing Mayor Vaishali Bankar to admit the mistake.

The MNS corporators protested outside the mayors office,blocking her way to the meeting hall. After the intervention of Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak,the MNS corporators moved away,but took the protest to the meeting hall.

The mayor was accompanied by her husband,son and daughter on the Korea trip,while NCP leader Subhash Jagtaps son and NCP leader Baburao Chanderes wife were also part of the delegation. All of them were introduced as NGO representatives.

With the MNS not giving up the protest,Bankar said it was her ignorance to take her family members as NGO representatives. This will not be repeated, she said.

On the other hand,BJP staged a protested seeking suspension of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Shelar after it was revealed his wife owned 13 apartments and had defaulted on paying property tax for many years. The deputy municipal commissioner should be suspended, demanded a BJP corporator. The municipal chief assured action against the civic officer after getting the inquiry report about the allegations.
