Khadki Metro station opens for public: ‘Commuters can enjoy seamless travel experience’

The opening of the Khadki Metro station will benefit people travelling to and from Khadki, Pune University, Aundh IT Park, Khadki Cantonment, Khadki Bazaar, Range Hill, Aundh and Mula Road.

In good news for commuters in Pune, the Khadki Metro station opened to the public on Saturday morning.

“With the opening of Khadki station on the route of Pune Metro, the public transport system on this road connecting the twin cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad has been further strengthened. Citizens commuting to and from Khadki, Pune University, Aundh IT Park, Khadki Cantonment, Khadki Bazaar, Range Hill, Aundh, and Mula Road will benefit from this,” said Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, the implementing agency of the Pune Metro project.

The Pune Metro service runs from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate and connects the twin towns of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. The 17.4 km route has 14 stations, of which 12 are operational. Two stations, Khadki and Range Hill, were not open till now.

The work on the Range Hill Metro station will be taken up soon, said Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Pune Metro.

The opening of the Khadki station is expected to help students of Pune University, people working at Aundh IT Park, residents and employees of Khadki Cantonment, Khadki Bazaar, Range Hill, Aundh Road, patients of Ordinance Factory Hospital and residents of Mula Road.

The Metro station is close to Khadki railway station, with direct access for passengers.

It is likely to benefit commuters of local trains plying between Lonavala and Pune as they will have access to other parts of the city from Khadki Metro station. It will also benefit citizens once long-distance train services begin from Khadki station as proposed.

“This will make it easier for the residents of this area as well as commuters travelling by rail to avail the services of Pune Metro. Commuters will be able to enjoy a more convenient and seamless travel experience while using public transport,” said Sonawane.

The Pune Metro has already begun expansion of the route from Pimpri Chinchwad to Bhakti Shakti with four stations – Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi and Bhakti Shakti. The expansion from Swargate to Katraj is yet to start and will comprise stations at Market Yard, Padmavati, Bibewadi, Balajinagar and Katraj.
