The Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) has found that proper material was not used in the construction of staff quarters in the Khadki baazar area.
According to officials, during an inspection, the board found that there were major irregularities in the second phase of construction of 90 staff quarters in the cantonment area. The inspection report revealed that bad quality bricks were used for the construction while pointing out that block work or fly ash should have been used in place of bricks. Pointing out the other irregularity, the report said that the crushed sand to be sieved was not used.
Officials said that following the inspection, the cantonment board made the private contractor pay Rs 3 lakh fine for the violations.
Arun Godbole, executive engineer, said the contractor who is carrying out the job has already been reprimanded. He said the work on the second phase of the project is in progress and will be completed soon. In the second phase of the project there are only few staff quarters that remain to be constructed. The contractor has been asked to complete the construction at the earliest. The entire work would be completed in 2-3 months , added Godbole.
According to officials, the cantonment board had earlier demolished the staff quarters for class-IV employees as they were in bad condition. Godbole said the employees are now entitled to bigger accommodations. Instead of a one room kitchen accommodation, employees are now being provided with additional bedroom accommodation, said Godbole.
