Salsa at Corinthians bring some authentic Greek cuisine for the food lovers,while they also serve best of Indian dishes
Names like Revithokeftedes and Dolmades Mezes might not set you drooling,and if you said its Greek to you,you would be right as authentic Greek food is being served at the restaurant Salsa,at Corinthians. To solve your problem,while Revithokeftedes (at Rs 275) are chickpeas cakes,Dolmades Mezes (at Rs 350) is lamb rolls with Vine leaves. Serving some traditional delicacies from the land of rich culture and history,Greece,the ambience at the restaurant complements the cuisine. While soft music in the background just sets the mood right to indulge and have some good talking over it,pictures of stalwarts like Charlie Gabriel,Paul Whiteman,Horace Silver and Marlyn Monroe also give direction to the discussion.
Arun Arora,general manager,says,”Greek food though is not popular here in India,but it’s very near to the Indian palate,only a bit lighter in oil and spice content. While we have Indian avtaars of Chinese and even Italian dishes,Greek is not easy to experiment with. Though it involved risk to introduce Greek food,but a calculated one.”
Another highlight of the Greek food served there is that it is more towards the healthier side of the taste,where it takes care of taste and health with equal emphasis. “While baked bread (chapatti like bread make with special flour) and Patates Tigarites (special cheese on boiled potato at Rs 275) gives you a healthy feel,food items like Vegetarian Mousaka (Rs 325),a dish that is associated with celebration,introduces the rich Greek palate with potatoes,eggplant,zucchini,mushrooms and much more. An extensive use of olive oil makes eating much tension free for people who count calories.
“In out first phase we have brought some traditional food from Greece,while our next phase will witness more from the interiors and even household of Greece. Moreover,we also plan to bring in some more Mediterranean food for our customers,” says Noorbasha Shaikh,food and beverage manager.
Arora says that apart from Indian and Egyptian,Greeks is one civilisation,while everything else is adaptation,so the Greek food is original and not adapted form of anything else. Moreover,Greeks like to indulge and they have a taste for good.
However,for them who might take some time to develop a taste for Greek food before appreciating it,the restaurant also serves Indian food. “Paneer- Bhindi Korma (for Rs 275),though sounds uncommon combination,but is the most asked for food item here in out restaurant. As it promises,taste of every both paneer and lady’s finger tenderly cooked in rich white gravy,” says Shaikh.
Coming on the desert,keeping up the rich and high traditions of Corianthians,the restaurant chose to put on display their ever-changing deserts on the desert trolly,placed in the middle of the restaurant in a good price range of Rs 100 to Rs 125 per desert. “We display the deserts so that we don’t have to restrict to the mentioned ones in the menu,” explains Shaikh.
Yet another important aspect of the food is that just like it is light on the stomach,it is not very heavy on the pocket as well.
About Salsa
While Salsa is more popular as a Spanish Dance form,it also means a spicy sauce. While the restaurant was named Salsa,music and food were the obvious stressed features. So while Greek cuisine promises good food,some jazz and musical ambience with paintings and statues of musicians makes it special. The Corinthians is designed on a Moroccan theme and hence having a specialty in Greek food was expected thing coming. Etched on a backdrop of mountains and valleys,the club offers serene atmosphere and good authentic Greek food. With its in-house brewery,the place becomes all the more special among the ones,who have a taste for fresh beer.
