The police on Friday registered an offence against a software firm and arrested its director for allegedly cheating its employees by not paying them salaries of over last one year.
Employee Shashank Shrigar (24) of company Aarnum Technologies Private Limited lodged the offence at the Shivajinagar police station on Friday. The director has been identified as Rohan Nikam.
Hundreds of employees of Aarnum Technologies gathered at the Shivajinagar police station on Friday with their complaints. Police said the company had employed hundreds of youths through advertisements in media and private employment agencies.
Police said the company collected deposit money to the tune of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 from each,assuring to give them a well-paid job. “The company trained the youths in software tools development and also made them work on software development projects. For the training,the company took deposits from the youths and later also paid them salaries for a few months. But later the company stopped paying salaries and did not respond to their grievances,” said police inspector Seema Mehendale of Shivajinagar police station.
The inspector said the company has three branches in the city,including one on F C Road,she said,adding that over 1,700 youths have been cheated. “We are also looking into the working of more branches and operations of the company are being probed,” she said.
