Iraqi held for molesting help

Police arrested a 26-year-old Iraqi national on Tuesday for allegedly molesting an 18-year-old woman working as a domestic help at his residence in Kubera Park area of Kondhwa.

Police arrested a 26-year-old Iraqi national on Tuesday for allegedly molesting an 18-year-old woman working as a domestic help at his residence in Kubera Park area of Kondhwa.

Prasad Hasabnis,senior inspector with Kondhwa police,said the accused,Quaso Jado Ahmed,was staying in Pune for a post-graduate course in English at a city college for last two years. He had recently asked the victim,a resident of Shivnerinagar,to work at his house as a domestic help. Tuesday was her first day at work.

Around 12 noon,Ahmed allegedly molested the victim after which she started shouting. After informing the watchman,she got one of her relatives on the spot. Till then the watchman had asked the accused to come down. Some of the residents who had by then gathered there reportedly started arguing with him and beating him after which the police were called.

Hasabnis said,“The police team that had gone to the building then brought the accused,the victim and others to the police station. A complaint was lodged and he was arrested at 2 pm.” Ahmed has been booked under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assaulting the woman with an intent to outrage her modesty. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
