The Film And Television Institute of India (FTII) student film,Come and See,directed by Tathagata Singha, has bagged the Indo-Canada Student Innovation Award 2011 (ICSIA). This the first award ever to be won by the students of the Graphic and Animation course of the institute.
The film which is of five-minutes duration basically deals with two characters-a pregnant mother and the unborn child. It showcases the effect that violence has on the unborn child who absorbs the images that the mother is seeing on the television. Taking a long shot one could compare it to the story of how Arjuns son Abhimanyu understood the way to enter the Chakravyuha through his mother, but that was sound this is a visual image. The unborn child can see the images that drop onto him like bombs, said Singha. The competition provided a platform to showcase talent and innovation skills of the animation students across India and received some 400 entries and 13 were nominated. Singha incidentally has also won the national award last year for his film Ekti Kaktaliyo Golpo. The Director of this winning film will receive one week training at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology,Toronto ,Canada. Singha however said,My diploma film is still in the post production stage so I really do not know whether it will be possible. I wasn’t even able to go for the award ceremony on Friday, he adds.
