Pune-based Flautist Sunil Avachat,disciple of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia launched an album ‘Resemblance’ in Mumbai on July 10. The instrumentalist has been learning classical flute for almost two decades and his album is the first-of-its-kind to comprise tracks from all genres of music on one instrument. The artist has compiled nine tracks in the album based on different Indian styles such as classical,folk,light and a bhajan. “The Indian spice of music has been sprinkled in these different tracks. Various styles have been used to attract the common man and show him the power of this instrument. We have also tried to keep the length of the classical tracks to a minimum so as to suit the patience of the lay-listener,” says Avachat.
Although the flute is a well-known instrument,Avachat compares it with other instruments and hopes its popularity will increase. He says that the flute has been played all over the world as a folk instrument but has entered the classical stream much later,unlike sitar or tabla. The versatility of this instrument,he says,encourages one to show that all styles of music can be adorned with a flute.
Playing with a bamboo flute,Avachat has inculcated popular classical music into his original compositions to help the common man identify with the tracks.
