In the Eyes of A Woman

The many dimensions and facets of women emerge through artist Snehalata Gobur's paintings.

The many dimensions and facets of women emerge through artist Snehalata Gobur’s paintings. “I feel that a when a girl is born, the instincts of motherhood are already instilled in her. My goal was to show all the shades of womanhood in my paintings,” says Gobur, whose exhibition ‘Unfathomable Eyes’ is on at Malaka Spice,Koregaon Park, till April 30. With a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Sai Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya,(Pune),she began her journey as an artist right after her SSC examination. Inspired by her mother, the artist explores the various characteristics of womanhood through the different roles that she plays – as a daughter,a sister,a mother,a companion and wife. She feels that in each and every role, there are traces of ‘motherhood’. “And,that defines a woman most naturally,” she adds. For her artworks, she has used acrylic and played with texture. “The artists that inspire me are S H Raza and Van Gogh,” says Gobur, who turns to vibrant hues to depict different moods and contexts. Apart from her passion for art,Gobur also invests time and efforts in giving back to society. She teaches children at the Sangli centre of the Akanksha Foundation and runs her own activity centre in Baner where she shares her love for art and craft with both adults and children. This 24-year-old artist has conducted painting exhibitions in other cities as well. This her first solo one. Ask her why her exhibition is called Unfathomable Eyes, and she says with a smile,“A woman is mysterious and she expresses herself through her eyes; they speak to you. That is the essence of my collection.”
