India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist,Abhinav Bindra,is gunning for his second Olympic gold medal in the London 2012 and his preparations towards that goal are already on.

The Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games are just in the way of what I really want,a second Olympic gold,he told The Indian Express on the sidelines of the practice session of the Commonwealth Games trials at Balewadi on Thursday.

However, not being one to take even a single match lightly,Bindra arrived in the city two days early and was at the Shooting Range of the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City early on Thursday morning. He scored an impressive 397 out of 400 in his first round.

I came early to get acclimatised to the conditions of the range,he said. Bindra will be competing in the 10-meter Air Rifle trials on June 19-20.

This is the first of two trials that are being held for the selection of the national team for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. As per a letter issued by the National Rifle Association of India, shooters will have to participate in both the trials in order to be considered for selection for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. The shooters who will take part in the World Championships will not have to participate in the second trial. The average of their scores from the first trial and the World Championships will be considered for selection for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. Those who are not a part of the World Championships team will have the average of their scores from the two trials considered, the letter says.

Wanting to stay away from controversy this time around,Bindra avoided commenting on the selection procedure and trials and said the shooters will just have to find a way to adjust to the given guidelines. He did, however, express the need for sensitivity to be given to ‘world -class shooters’.

No two shooters are the same. Each shooter has a different style and therefore has different demands for the selection policy as per their tournament schedule. Every shooter has to find a way to adjust to the situation,he said.
