Yet another goof-up in Class XII question papers has left the Higher Secondary Certificate board red in the face. This time it is in the Computer Science examination under the Minimum Competency Vocational Courses (MCVC) option.
The boards helpline kept ringing as worried students allegedly found four mistakes in the paper and kept calling to find what went wrong. Students who appeared for the examination said question numbers 1A,1B,2A (b) and 4B were wrong, and they were not from within the syllabus. The four questions were not from our syllabus. So,we failed to attempt them, said a student.
When asked, state board chairman Sarjerao Jadhav said,There could have been minor mistakes. We have a committee looking into the matter.
Over 10,000 Class XII students from the state had opted for computer science, Jadhav added.
He,however, denied the questions were out of syllabus. There could have been mistakes in the questions, but questions were not from out of syllabus. Moderators will look into the matter to check if there were errors in the questions, and if so,grace marks will be awarded to students who attempted them. Students should not worry about losing marks, he said.
If a situation arises where moderators decide to award grace marks to students, only those who attempted these questions will get them. In this case, marks will not be given to those who have not attempted the question at all.
Earlier, seven grace marks were declared by the state board for English for similar reasons. Students who had attempted questions 5 (A) and (B) of the unseen passage were awarded grace marks due to errors in those questions.
