One of Marilyn Monroe’s most famous poses is of her standing over a hot-air grate as the flowing white frock that she wears billows upwards. This single shot, seen in the 1955 movie The Seven Year Itch has caused the garment to be proclaimed as ‘Hollywood’s most famous frock ever’. This, and many other costumes from some of Hollywood’s best movies recently went under the hammer for the Beverly Hills auction. Monroe’s skirt fetched a cool $ 5.6 million (R 25 crore). Other memorabilia on sale included Audrey Hepburn’s dress in My Fair Lady for $ 4.5 million (R 20 crore) and Charlie Chaplin’s bowler hat in Little Tramp for $ 137,500 (R 61 lakhs).
