A visit to Kolhapur on the occasion of Gurupurnima proved to be the last trip for two friends from Mohammedwadi in Pune who were killed on the spot after the car they were traveling in turned turtle near Khandala on Pune-Bengaluru highway on Friday at 11.30 pm They were on their way back to Pune.
The deceased have been identified as Mangesh Bhagwan Chavan (27) and Amol Vasant Tarawade (28),both of Mohammedwadi in Pune. Their three other friends – Sachin Barate,Vikram Gadge and Yogesh Ghule sustained serious injuries and are now under treatment at Noble Hospital in Hadapsar.
Chavan ran a stone crusher unit near Mohammedwadi while Tarawade looked after the family farm. Amols cousin Himmat Tarawade said,All the five travailing in the car were friends. They had gone to Kolhapur to visit some temple there on the occasion of Gurupurnima. Their relatives were waiting for them expecting them to bring prasad for all. The news came as a shock to the entire locality.
As per the information given by Khandala police under Satara district police,the accident took place near a village named Pingrutwadi. Assistant police inspector Shridhar Jadhav said,After the tunnel there is a sharp S shaped curve. On the first curve,driver Barate lost control as they were traveling at a very high speed and thier Corolla car turned turtle. After we got the message from the highway control police,we immediately rushed to the spot and found both Chavan and Tarawade dead. The injured were taken to the hospital immediately.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the relatives on Saturday morning after the post mortem.
Pravin Tarawade,another relative of Amol,said,Mangesh was blessed with a son about two months ago,while Amols marriage was fixed recently. The accident has come as a major shock to the families.
