HEMRL celebrates National Science Day

High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL),celebrated National Science Day on Friday. Dr P S Goel,chairman,Recruitment and Assessment Centre,DRDO,New Delhi,was the chief guest.

High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL),celebrated National Science Day on Friday. Dr P S Goel,chairman,Recruitment and Assessment Centre,DRDO,New Delhi,was the chief guest.

Goel appealed to the scientist to gear up to face the challenges of the 21st century. “Science is relevant for the whole world and will be so forever. Science creates problems also but science is the only way to find solutions to problems,” said Goel. He stressed on the need to develop new products to counter the threat of national security.

Dr A Subhananda Rao,director,HEMRL,emphasised on the importance of scientific research for technology growth and national security of the country. “At present,only 0.9 per cent of GDP is being spent on R&D in India. It should go up to 2 per cent by 2020 if we have to attain the developed nation status by 2020,” he said.

Several competitions were organised like science quiz,general knowledge quiz,presentations on challenges of science in 21st century,popular science writing competition and logo competition. Twenty awards were conferred on the participants evaluated by a panel of judges. A K Mandal,scientist ‘E’ of HEMRL gave the science day oration.
