Helmets mandatory for cops on two-wheelers

Police personnel riding two-wheelers will have to wear helmets from now on.

Police personnel riding two-wheelers will have to wear helmets from now on. Police authorities have issued a fresh order in this regard after they found that the staff was not following an earlier order.

An order making helmets compulsory was issued by the DCP (traffic control branch) Vishwas Pandhare as directed by the Pune police commissioner Meeran Borwankar. Pandhare told Newsline,“The defaulters will be fined Rs 100 every time they are caught. We will start taking action within two-three days.”

A senior police officer with the traffic branch said,“A similar order was issues couple of years ago. But it has been observed that few staffers were wearing helmets. It was also found that many constables on patrolling duty did not wear helmets.”

A day after the order was issued, several staffers demanded that the police administration provide them helmets. Authorities, however, said the staffers should buy their own helmets.
