Foundation Day
Chest Research Foundation (CRF) celebrated its 10th foundation day recently. On the occasion,several experts spoke about how India needs to step up research to become a global hub. Dr Nilima Kshirsagar,National Chair (Clinical Pharmacology),Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR),lamented the abysmal contribution of India to world research,while Dr Bhushan Patwardhan,vice chancellor of the Symbiosis International University,was happy to note that CRF was also exploring the role of traditional Indian medicine in managing respiratory diseases. Dr Sundeep Salvi,director,CRF,outlined the major achievements of the institution in generating new knowledge through research. He highlighted CRFs role in drawing the worlds attention to the rising incidence of non-smoking COPD. An alarming increase in asthma among children,along with some hitherto unknown risk factors,was also brought to light by CRF scientists. Dr Mrudula Phadke,the ex-vice chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences,Sharad Joshi,professor and dean,Corporate Relations,Vishwakarma Institute of Management and others spoke on the occasion.
Meditation Camp
This Children’s Day,Anapansati and meditation programmes were held at Vipassana Meditation Centre,Swargate. Dutta Kohinkar Patil,yoga teacher and chairman of the Pune Vipassana committee,said,At the centre,a day-long course on Anapansati is held on the first Sunday of every month. According to Ayurveda,regular practice of Anapansati enhances concentration and memory.
