‘Hate speech’ by Nitesh Rane: MIM says BJP wants to incite communal violence; police say speeches being probe

Ahead of the Assembly elections, Jaleel said it seems like the Mahayuti — and especially BJP — has chalked out a plan to trigger communal violence in Maharashtra.

EVEN as the Ahmednagar police have filed two FIRs against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane for alleged hate speeches, AIMIM on Tuesday said this is a tactical ploy of the saffron party to trigger communal violence before the Assembly elections. The Ahmednagar police said they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action against Rane.

“If an opposition MLA or leader had made a provocative speech, the government would have immediately arrested him. But Nitesh Rane repeatedly goes to Ahmednagar and makes inflammatory speeches, yet no action is taken against him,” Imtiaz Jaleel, state chief of AIMIM, told The Indian Express.

Jaleel said the way Rane is repeating coming to Ahmednagar district and making provocative statements raises doubts as to whether he has the backing of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “Is Fadnavis backing Rane,” Jaleel asked.

Ahead of the Assembly elections, Jaleel said it seems like the Mahayuti — and especially BJP — has chalked out a plan to trigger communal violence in Maharashtra. “If communal voilence takes place, the Mahayuti and BJP believe it will be in their interest ahead of the Assembly elections. This seems to be their tactical ploy to win the elections by causing rift between the two communities,” he said.

Demanding the arrest of Rane, Jaleel said, “In case of others, police waste no time in arresting the person or persons who make provocative statements. But why is Rane being given preferential treatment? Just because he is a BJP leader?”

Jaleel said even Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who claims to follow the ideology of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is keeping silent. “Ajit Pawar says he follows the ideology of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Why is Ajit Pawar keeping silent. The Muslim community is clearly unhappy with Ajit Pawar,” he said.

When contacted, Ahmednagar Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola said, “We have registered two FIRs against Rane for his alleged inflammatory speeches and are investigating the matter.”

On whether there is any time-frame to complete the investigation, Ola said, “There is no deadline but we will complete it soon.”

Asked whether there was pressure on the police not to act against Rane, Ola denied it.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut, without taking the name of Rane, said, “A BJP MLA goes to Ahmednagar and talks of entering mosque and beating up people. We want to know from Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether he approves such a statement from the BJP MLA. If his statement is acceptable to Modi, then he should not enter mosques during his trips to foreign countries.

Raut said by allowing use of such language, BJP intends to incite communal violence. “Inciting communal violence is BJP’s top priority especially during election times,” he said.

On Sunday and Monday, the Ahmednagar police filed two FIRs against Rane. They were registered in Shrirampur and Topkhana police stations. A video from one of the events, Sakal Hindu Samaj Andolan, organised in Ahmednagar, in support of religious guru Ramgiri Maharaj was circulated on social media.

In the video, the Kankavli MLA is allegedly heard saying that if anyone speaks against the Maharaj, they will be beaten up. He is also heard allegedly using abusive language.

AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan has urged both Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Fadnavis to take action against Rane.

For the first 16 years, he worked on the desk, edited stories, made pages, wrote special stories and handled The Indian Express edition. In 31 years of his career, he has regularly written stories on a range of topics, primarily on civic issues like state of roads, choked drains, garbage problems, inadequate transport facilities and the like. He has also written aggressively on local gondaism. He has primarily written civic stories from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Khadki, Maval and some parts of Pune. He has also covered stories from Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Sangli, Ahmednagar and Latur. He has had maximum impact stories from Pimpri-Chinchwad industrial city which he has covered extensively for the last three decades.   Manoj More has written over 20,000 stories. 10,000 of which are byline stories. Most of the stories pertain to civic issues and political ones. The biggest achievement of his career is getting a nearly two kilometre road done on Pune-Mumbai highway in Khadki in 2006. He wrote stories on the state of roads since 1997. In 10 years, nearly 200 two-wheeler riders had died in accidents due to the pathetic state of the road. The local cantonment board could not get the road redone as it lacked funds. The then PMC commissioner Pravin Pardeshi took the initiative, went out of his way and made the Khadki road by spending Rs 23 crore from JNNURM Funds. In the next 10 years after the road was made by the PMC, less than 10 citizens had died, effectively saving more than 100 lives. Manoj More's campaign against tree cutting on Pune-Mumbai highway in 1999 and Pune-Nashik highway in 2004 saved 2000 trees. During Covid, over 50 doctors were  asked to pay Rs 30 lakh each for getting a job with PCMC. The PCMC administration alerted Manoj More who did a story on the subject, asking then corporators how much money they demanded....The story worked as doctors got the job without paying a single paisa. Manoj More has also covered the "Latur drought" situation in 2015 when a "Latur water train" created quite a buzz in Maharashtra. He also covered the Malin tragedy where over 150 villagers had died.     Manoj More is on Facebook with 4.9k followers (Manoj More), on twitter manojmore91982 ... Read More
