Sunil Shinde,chartered accountant of Pune-based horse owner Hasan Ali Khan and suspect in the multi-crore hawala racket and tax evasion scam,on Wednesday sought police protection after receiving an anonymous threat letter in the morning.
Shinde and his counsel advocate Rahul Dinodokar approached deputy commissioner of police (Crime Branch) Anant Rokde on Wednesday afternoon and submitted his application for police protection. Later,the Crime Branch officers recorded his statement.
Advocate Dindokar said Shinde received the anonymous threat letter around 11 am at his residence in Sahakarnagar. Unidentified persons have threatened Shinde to declare the names of politicians involved in the alleged scam or he will have to face the consequences. So we have filed an application for police protection. The decision on the application would be taken by Thursday afternoon, said Dindokar.
The hand written letter in Marathi language states,Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Khan and now its your number. You handle the accounts of Khan. So you very well know that top leaders associated with Khan.
Investigation would soon reveal the truth. But before that name the corrupt politicians involved in the scam. And if you dont do it,we will have to take action against you. Note that the consequences would be very dangerous.
The letter also mentioned two mobile phone numbers. It was learnt that these were numbers of CBI officers. Investigation is being done to identify the person who sent the letter. The police will decide tomorrow about providing security to Shinde.
