The scare of H1N1 virus has now officially entered the university campus after affecting around 270 educational institutes in the city. A two and a half year old boy who was coming to the crèche meant for children of the varsity staff found swine flu positive. Though he has recovered from the illness,as a precautionary measure the varsity has decided to close the crèche and a nearby department for a week.

According to resident medical doctor Shashikant Dudhgaonkar, the boy got infected three days back. “He was admitted to a private hospital in the city a few days back. Though he was reported swine flu positive, his parents informed this to the varsity only on Monday. However,he was not coming to the crèche after felling ill. As a precautionary measure,we decided to close down the crèche from Tuesday,” he said.

The varsity immediately arranged for fumigation of the crèche and nearby extension department on Tuesday. “There are around 25 students in the crèche. We have informed the parents of these children to keep watch on them and if they find any swine flu symptoms they are instructed to immediately inform the varsity,” said Dudhgaonkar.

Meanwhile, registrar of the varsity Manik Jadhav said the varsity would also fumigate nearby hostels for a safety purpose. “We have also closed the extension department for a week,” he said.
