Guidelines to mandals,from Pune cops

City Police Commissioner Meeran Borwankar on Friday said Ganesh mandals would be allowed to erect box arches not more than 10 metres tall within the 100-metre radius of the mandals.

City Police Commissioner Meeran Borwankar on Friday said Ganesh mandals would be allowed to erect box arches not more than 10 metres tall within the 100-metre radius of the mandals.

However,Borwankar warned them of action if they don’t adhere to guidelines issued by police.

Borwankar announced that from this year,the applications from Ganesh mandals will be received and approved at police stations. Processing of applications will be done through a single-window system,she said.

Borwankar was speaking at a meeting with mandal members and senior police officers and senior police inspectors of all police stations at the Pune police headquarters where a code of conduct and a checklist for mandals were released. Police had also invited suggestions from mandal members for the Ganesh festival which will be celebrated from September 11- 22.

“Tackling security and swine flu and protection of environment are the top priorities of police during the festival,” said Borwankar.

To ensure minimum traffic chaos during the festival,DCP (traffic),Manoj Patil,said,“After the immersion,mandal members are expected to return to pandals peacefully.”

Joint Commissioner of Police Ashok Dhiware has urged citizens to celebrate the festival in the right spirit.

Senior officials from Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation were also present.
