Gokul Nepali’s body released after six days

Gokul Nepali’s body that had been lying at the Sassoon General Hospital’s morgue for six days was released late on Friday night after his cousin Basant Nepali and friends from German Bakery got the No Objection Certificate from the police.

Gokul Nepali’s body that had been lying at the Sassoon General Hospital’s morgue for six days was released late on Friday night after his cousin Basant Nepali and friends from German Bakery got the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the police.

Nepali’s wife and mother are in Nepal and could not travel to India,said Raj Thakur,president of the Nepali Shramik Mazdoor Union which has been trying to contact the Nepal embassy since Sunday. “We did not get an official reply,” he said and alleged that there was no help from the embassy either.

Nepali,who had married just three months ago,hailed from a poor family that lived in the Bagmati district. He worked in Goa earlier and came to Pune a couple of months ago,Thakur said. Basant who also works at German Bakery was still in a state of shock and said he yet had to come to terms with the deaths due to blast.

“The body cannot be taken to Nepal and we will perform the final rites in the city itself,” said Rabi Ghimire,Gokul’s friend,adding,“Our friends have been injured in the blast and some are still in the hospital.” While no relatives of Gokul could come from Nepal,his distant cousin and friends will now bid him a final adieu. “It was a long wait for the body but we hope he rests in peace,” he said.

Aditi Jindal (21) from Ambala is proving to be a fighter. She suffered 35 per cent burns and is still critical in the ICU of Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital though she has been taken off life-support systems like the ventilator. The news brought a lot of cheer among her relatives and friends. Dr Rakesh Jindal,Aditi’s uncle,and her mother seemed relieved and said it was a good news. Jindal said,“However,we know she is still critical.” Dr Sumeet Saxena,plastic surgeon,said though critical she is a lot better than before. “She has lung injuries and suffers from multiple-shock trauma. We will have to observe her for the next 10 days and hope she is out of danger,” said Saxena. Meanwhile,three victims at Jehangir Hospital’s ICU and six at the Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital’s ICU are critical but stable,doctors said.
