7-yr-old girl gets strangled while playing with towel

As per the procedure, a case of accidental death was lodged at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.

A girl died after she accidentally got strangled while playing with a towel in her house in the Katraj area of Pune recently. The deceased has been identified as Aditi Dattatraya Kulkarni, 7.

As per the procedure, a case of accidental death was lodged at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. The police said the girl used to often play near the window and the adjacent passage of her home. Around 5.30 pm Saturday, she was playing with a towel by hanging from the window grills. But the towel somehow got stuck to her neck and she got strangled, they added.

Police sub-inspector Varsha Ghogare said, “Father of the deceased girl is a security guard and her mother works as a maid at a school. Both of them had gone to their respective workplaces and the girl was with her grandmother, who is about 90 years old. The grandmother noticed the girl getting strangled and shouted for help.”

Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the cries of the elderly woman. Soon, the police were informed. The cops took the girl to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was the only child of her parents.
