Additional Sessions Judge VV Joshi convicted four persons, including three brothers, for murdering Ravindra Ramaji Wadmare (30) who allegedly fled with the former wife of one of the three brothers on October 28,2008.

The court sentenced the four persons to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each for the murder. The three brothers who have been convicted are Bharat (41),Ramhari (52) and Pratap Ganpat Gaikwad (49) along with Samrat Laxman Gaikad (28),all from Gandhi nagar slums in Pimpri.

According to the prosecution,Wadmare had fled with Bharat’s first wife and had married her. Since then, there used to be frequent arguments between Bharat and Wadmare. She had delivered a baby girl. This incident triggered off a fight between the duo.

Bharat and his two brothers along with Samrat hit Wadmare with a sickle and iron rod. Wadmare’s brother Navnath who had tried to intervene and save his brother was also injured. He later registered a complaint with Pimpri police. The defence lawyer argued that Bharat was instigated by Wadmare as he had allegedly beaten his wife. However, the court refused to accept it as the defence failed to prove so. Eyewitness Navnath’s statement proved vital in nailing the four accused.
