Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole on Sunday announced that the first phase of the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) flyover will be completed and opened in April.

In a post on Facebook, Shirole said that work on the metro double flyover at Savitribai Phule University square is in progress and the section from Aundh to Ganeshkind will be opened for vehicles in the first week of April. He added that the bridge towards Baner and Pashan on Ganeshkhind road will be opened from June 15.

“The bridge ramp till Aundh (from Ganeshkhind) will be built in the first week of April. So vehicles can travel from Aundh to Ganeshkhind road over the bridge. The possession of land to build a ramp on Baner road has been recently received. Soon the ramp will start building and in five months it will be done. Vehicles can come and go from both sides on the Baner side,” Shirole’s post said.

Due to the ongoing construction of the flyover, commuters have to take multiple u-turns to enter the university.

The construction of Pune’s third metro line on the same route also adds to the congestion.

In December 2024, an officer with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) had said, “Work on the Metro rail route from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is in full swing. However, the launch got delayed due to restrictions imposed during the election period and breaks for VIP movement. An extension has been sought in the deadline to start operations on the route from September-end.”
