At least six people stranded on the 11th floor of a building in the Mohammed Wadi area of Pune were rescued by the fire brigade after a fire started in an apartment on the same floor on Tuesday afternoon. No casualties were reported in the fire.

The Pune Fire Brigade deployed at least half a dozen fire tenders and a skylift after the fire was reported from the residential building Majestique Euriska around 1.30 pm. Minutes later, intense smoke was seen emanating from the flat’s windows. The residents on the other floors also came out within minutes after the fire started.

Fire Officer Sameer Shaikh said, “The fire was brought under control around 2.30 pm, before it could spread to other floors. At least six people, including those from the family in the flat where the fire started and from the neighbouring flats, were rescued. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.”

A cooling operation was undertaken by spraying water to avert any secondary fires. The damages in the fire were not yet known.

Officials said breathing apparatus sets were also dispatched with the rescue teams.
